7 mo F with recurrent ear infections
Major Findings
- Bilateral mastoid effusions
- Right mastoid subperiosteal abscess
- Right middle ear effusion
- Trace opacifications in the left middle ear
Teaching Points
Pertinent negatives to look for (which this patient does not have):
- Dural venous sinus thrombosis - the junction of the transverse and sigmoid sinuses is immediately adjacent to the mastoid cavity
- Intracranial abscess or spread of infection
