Major Findings

Teaching Points

Pre-septal = periorbital = may be managed with PO antibiotics
Post-septal = intraorbital = requires IV antibiotics

Complications to look for in orbital cellulitis:
  • Subperiosteal abscess
  • Intraorbital abscess
  • Proptosis
  • Superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis
  • Intracranial spread of infection
