History
4 yo F, restrained passenger in MVC
Major Findings
- Widened facet on the right at C6-C7, perched facet on the left at C6-C7
- Fracture through the superior endplate of C7
- Interspinous widening at C6-C7
- Epidural hemorrhage (anterior and posterior epidural space) through upper thoracic spine with mass effect on cord
- Body CT (not shown) demonstrated a lumbar epidural
Teaching Points
When checking the facet joints on each side, make sure they are lined up like shingles on a roof and not widened, perched, or jumped.
