6 mo M, MVC improperly secured in carseat

Subarachnoid hemorrhage in the suprasellar, perimesencephalic, and prepontine cisterns extending caudally into the ventral foramen magnum
Slight widening of the basion-dens interval (normal 4-11 mm) and occipital condyle-C1 lateral mass intervals (normal 0.5-3 mm), concerning for skull base distraction injury

Use your bone subtraction images (case CL0937) when available and windowing to aid in detecting subtle hemorrhage.

Superior: suprasellar cistern (star-shaped or pentagon-shaped)

Perimesencephalic (surrounding the midbrain):

Anterior: interpeduncular cistern (between cerebral peduncles) and crural cisterns
Posterior: ambient cisterns and quadrigeminal cistern (W-shaped)

Inferior: prepontine cistern, cerebellopontine angles, and cisterna magna
